Computers have never been as accessible as they are today. Once only available at huge cost to a few people, today computers are found at work for business use and at home for entertainment. Computers are used globally and connect the world together in an unprecedented way.
In the BUILT Network Computer Fundamentals program we will take a step by step approach beginning with examining the computer’s hardware, or physical components.
Next we will learn about software which is the data that instructs the hardware to accomplish certain tasks, including the computer’s main software called the operating system. In this program we will focus on the Microsoft Windows XP operating system and discuss some basic tasks done on a computer including file management.
We will then explore Microsoft Office, the most widely used productivity software suite. We will focus on using Microsoft Office Word, a word processing software; Microsoft Office Excel, a spreadsheet software; and Microsoft Office Outlook, an email and personal information management software. We will examine both 2003 and 2007 versions of these programs.
Next we will cover emailing using Outlook and the Internet and related topics including web sites and web pages, spam, viruses and how you can protect your computer against fraudulent and malicious activity.
This program is divided into five sessions with each session lasting three hours, totaling 15 hours for the program in its entirety. Each session will end with a review of the topics covered as well as a brief quiz. Therefore it is advisable to pause and take notes.
The quiz is intended for you to apply what you have learned and evaluate your knowledge. These quizzes are for your educational development and are not graded.
Once you have completed all five sessions you will be asked to complete a brief evaluation of the program. We use this feedback to improve future editions of the program and add new content.
Upon completing the BUILT Network Computer fundamentals program you will receive a Certificate of Completion.
